Nearly 45% of the participants felt that some types of food kill the taste of smoking while 70% experienced that food enhances the taste of cigarette. It was found that liquids like water, juice, dairy products and foods like fruits and vegetables kill the taste of cigarette. Hot weather, stale cigarette, smell of smoky room, taking medicine and smoking too much too fast also diminish the taste of cigarette. However, taking foods like meat and liquids like alcohol and caffeinated drinks improves the taste of smoking.
This variation in cigarette taste also depends upon the types of cigarette they smoked. Over 40% smoked light cigarettes and less than 40% smoked the normal full flavored brand. Almost 47% says they smoked menthol. The younger smokers were very sensitive to foods that worsen the taste of cigarette, mild smokers were to taste enhancing food and those who smoke menthol were sensitive to both the influences.
Further investigation will be done as to how exactly food effects the taste of cigarette and how far it will be successful if diets are changed in order to quit smoking.
