If you are one of those ladies who knows exactly what she wants this holiday season, there are ways to make sure your personal Saint Nick delivers the goods. All too often I hear my lady friends complain after the holidays that they did not get what they wanted or worse, they got something awful. While I cannot help but feel sorry for them, I do have to wonder how well they dropped hints in advance.
Face it ladies, we guys are not mind readers. In fact, we are not even close! If there is something you have your heart set on, you have to make sure subtle hints are not the only thing you drop. You need to practically beat us over the head with the 411.
If you do not, you can almost count on the “emergency” purchase being made. A box of chocolates, a gift
card, a wholly unromantic appliance or worse, the last-minute panic buy from a convenience store. We guys have good intentions and we want to knock you off your feet with our dazzling gift selection abilities, but the truth is many of us are simply awful at making the right choice.
If you want to make our jobs easier and make sure what Santa slips in your stocking delights, there are some great ways to let us know. Some are subtle, some are blatant and some can even be made to look like they were our ideas! (This is always a great way to go! It boosts our egos and makes us a little keener on the whole gift buying thing).
Circle it with a heart.
If you and your personal Saint Nick live together, drag out those catalogs that come in the mail and circle your favorite items with a heart. Leave them where he can see them. The kitchen table, the computer desk and even the bathroom counter all work wonders here.
Take him shopping.
This is a great way to drop hints he can turn into his “own ideas.” Drag him along to the mall, a clothing store or boutique to pick up something you need. Point out other items and say things like, “Gee, I’d really love to have that ring,” “Wow, that sweater is beautiful and it is just my size,” “Would this picture look great in our room?”. You get the idea!
Whisper it in his ear.
Nothing gets a guy’s attention like sweet nothings at the right time. In between the “Kiss me you fools” and the “Turn down the lights,” slip in a little “A new CD player would make performing a strip tease a whole lot of fun.” If you time it right, you will have a hard time preventing him from prematurely giving the gift!
Be blatant if you have to.
If you have gone holiday after holiday with bad gifts and all the hints in the world just do not do the trick, do yourself and your guy a favor, just exchange lists! Trust me, he does not want to buy you the wrong gift. If he is selection challenged, he will love you for this suggestion.
Santa is known to never fail on delivering gifts, but sometimes he suffers from badgering. If this is a problem, do lend the poor old guy a hand!
