The best gift that can be given is one which shows that one has put in a lot of thought behind it. This is where personalized gifts have a definite edge over gifts bought off the shelf. The internet has made the process of ordering personalized gifts very convenient and one must take advantage of this to create gifts that truly speak from the heart!

Being involved with a customization company, I have been asked by many people about how to create a nice personalized gift. While there are no hard and fast rules, following there 3 points will help in creating a nice gift.

1. Personalize to evoke some memories

Personalization is usually done on common everyday products like T-shirts, mugs etc. the product itself does not set the gift apart. What sets it apart is what is put on it. Therefore, always choose something that evokes good memories or brings a smile on the recipients face.

2. Personalize with combination of words, pictures and cartoons

Just putting a photograph on a t-shirt or mug does not do justice to the whole customization process or the gift. Express thoughts with the help of a few well-chosen words or a nice cartoon strip – be bold and don’t be afraid to experiment so that the result is eye-catching and exciting. Most online customization portals have a facility to create our own designs and preview it on the screen before finalizing it and placing an order. Use this facility to explore different combinations and choose one that helps to express your thoughts well.

3. Personalize with subtlety

Make sure the stuff that is put on the medium (t-shirt / mug etc) is not too loud in terms of color and size. Ideally, the size of the printed matter should be such that it is visible from about 3 feet and not of very bright or clashing colors. The idea behind printed t-shirt is that it should serve as a conversation starter – which will be achieved when people can only see it from say 2-3 feet away and not if they see it from 10 feet away!

In case of words on t-shirts, make sure that there are only 4 – 5 words per line and only about 2-3 lines of text – the content has to be precise and sharp to either evoke a smile or trigger some thought process in whoever sees the t-shirt.

Conclusion

Personalized gifts have the ability to touch people’s hearts, if done with care and thoughtfulness. It is always good reflect on the theme, keeping in mind the likes and dislikes of the gift receiver and the occasion before creating a personalized gift. Personalized gifts are not for people in a hurry. It is for people who want to care enough to spend some time thinking about what to gift that fits the person and the occasion perfectly. So, next time you want to create a personalized gift, make sure you plan in advance and create a gift that is mind-blowing!
